"How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid" and Three Community Awareness Events - 2015 Amount Funded: $4,650.00
StoughtonCARES goal with this year’s projects is to continue to educate families on how to be successful in raising alcohol and drug free children, as well as holding community awareness events to highlight issues that are relevant in the community. We believe this approach will have a lasting effect on the community members of Stoughton and bring more awareness and education than ever before. We believe that the more we bring community members together and provide accurate information from experts in the field, the larger the impact it will have on Stoughton families. Prevention (education and awareness) is key to stop something from happening or arising. We believe there is a need in the Stoughton community for further education on these topics in order to make a difference in our young children’s lives. Our plan is to implement these projects with the assistance of other agencies.
Historically StoughtonCARES has selected projects that bring awareness to and educate community members on alcohol, heroin and other drug issues. This year, we plan (similar to last year) to purchase and provide the book, “How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid”, to all 5th grade parents in support of raising healthy and productive youth. We also want to organize 3 community awareness events: “Marijuana–Stoughton’s Current Issues & What Legalization Really Means”, “Heroin Part 2–Back to the Beginning…Prescription Drugs” and “Alcohol Use & Abuse–Stoughton’s Reality with Binge Drinking”. Our aim with both projects is to reach even more of the community by educating members on issues currently impacting the Stoughton community. This grant would greatly help us with the resources needed to complete both of these projects.

Builing A Stronger Foundation Together - 2016 Amount Funded: $3,500.00
Everything StoughtonCARES has done in the past and would like to continue to do is to offer opportunities for community members to come together, to grow, to learn and to share for the betterment of the youth of the community. We have discovered how important it is to mirror for some families, as well as give other families an avenue in which to have fun without tobacco and/or alcohol. Kids learn by what they are shown and if we want to continue to show them how to have fun without alcohol and/or drugs, by watching a movie with others and enjoying a meal together we have given these children a memory to build from. By giving their parents tools through the distribution of this book, as well as education and awareness through the forums we feel we are making headway in the area of prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. Other agencies will be a part of implementing these projects.
This next year StoughtonCARES is looking to change things up, just a bit. We are selecting projects for this coming year to continue to bring awareness to and educate community members on alcohol, heroin and other drug issues. We are also wanting to host movie night events with food for families that will bring them together and allow them to enjoy time together without tobacco and/or alcohol. Our distribution of How to Raise a Drug-Free Kid book to all 5th grade parents to support them in raising healthy and productive youth is still a priority for StoughtonCARES. We also want to host more forums with the elected officials and community members to discuss alcohol policy, binge drinking, heroin, marijuana and other illegal drugs and what as elected officials and community members they can do to make a difference.
